Waking up is hard to do, but it might be a little easier with Zyken’s Nightcove alarm clock. It takes the powers of light, sound, and science and uses them to improve your sleep. All alarm clocks are designed to wake you up, but this one takes sleep-rhythms and naturally occurring light patterns to make it a more pleasant experience. The Nightcove has a darkening amber light at bedtime, followed by pulses of white and blue to wake you up the following morning. It also comes with an assortment of built-in sounds, or you can connect your mp3 player for customized audio. $2,500

The phone is titanium and covered in Ferrari leather which can be replaced as needed through Vertu’s service package that includes a free checkup every six months as well as the other features standard with Vertu phones such as their concierge service. Led Zeppelin fans this one’s for you: the Jimmy Page Double Neck Electric Guitar. A “painstaking” recreation of the famous 1971 model, it features both 6 and 12 string necks with rosewood fingerboards, a weathered dark cherry mahogany body, chrome hardware and strap locks, a 5-ply pickguard, four Page pickups, and two volume and tone control knobs. If I walked into someone’s home and saw these babies hanging out in the corner I really don’t know what I’d think, other than making a mental note not to stand too close in case somebody would accidentally hit the power switch on the stereo system. They’re Ferguson Hill Horn Loudspeakers, and although their enormous horn shape and clear acrylic construction are definitely impressive from a visual standpoint, sound quality leaves something to be desired for some. I’d take the sites suggestion of getting a demonstration before you buy, especially considering the price tag is a whopping $19,916.

I love my Macbook, but I don’t know that I’d ever considering going so far as to plate it in gold with a big diamond-studded apple logo. But if you’re of a different opinion and have the money to burn then you should get in touch with the team over at Computer Choppers and commission your own customized laptop casing, with options including gold or platinum plating with diamonds, sapphires, and other gems. Pricing varies, of course, but estimates for a gold-plated Macbook Pro run around $1200-$1500 plus another $500-$2400 for the logo (depending if you want CZs or diamonds).

Cover a gadget in a coat of gold and you’ve got my attention. Our friends at Engadget recently covered this beauty, the latest hard drive from LaCie. The alluringly named Golden Disk is an external hard drive with 500GB of storage, a USB 2.0 interface, PC/Mac compatibility and LaCie’s 1-Click backup software. The look is from French designer Ora-Īto and does contain a bit of real gold. That gorgeous rippling surface makes it hard to stack with other peripherals but why would you want to cover up that shine anyway. It sells for $189 and will be available in October.
