Here’s your afternoon dose of cuteness, ready or not. David McGoran’s Heart Robot has made its way into London’s Science Museum, and for good reason. This intelligent robot not only possesses a face with moving eyes and an external heart that blinks depending on what’s happening, but it actually encourages people to hug and cuddle it like a real human. Seen as being “among the first robots to signify a new era of emotional machines used for medical treatment and enjoyment,” this creature could one day become a mainstay in nursing homes where the elderly could interact with it and hopefully benefit in some metaphysical manner. Check out the read link for a video oozing with adorableness.

Named the MAG, this futuristic three wheel vehicle “runs on magnetic power and uses an electric engine that has a polarity.” Click here for first picture in gallery.
Its shape is similar to a ‘Whale coming towards you with an open mouth’. It is a 2-seater vehicle and definitely a very special design which you can not even imagine in your dreams.

If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not you want to spring for a WowWee Femisapien, perhaps a thorough, multi-page review would help. If you truck on over to robotsrule, you’ll find an ultra-in-depth look at the female automaton, with explorations into the bot’s interface, modes and behaviors, and a variety of other Femisapien idiosyncrasies. The conclusion? We’d have to state the reviewer is pretty much in full gush-mode over the new toy, calling it a “blockbuster hit” that’s “destined to take over the world.” We assume by “take over the world” they mean “obliterate humanity.”

So we had a choice: either we let scientists at the University of Sheffield attach electrodes to our tongues, or they were going to go and build their own artificial mouth. Because we’re not so into the whole electrode thing, they built “Anton,” an animatronic tongue made of soft silicone to help them understand speech and subsequently improve speech-recognition software. This isn’t the first of its kind, believe it or not — there’s much competition in the robotic mouth world. Because speech recognition systems aren’t really benefitting from simply crowding them full of recorded speech, researchers want to better understand how the mouth produces sound and then create algorythms that can simply recognize speech patterns rather than try to match recordings to recordings. Sounds about right to us. Peep the creepy video after the break.

That’s right, a seller is offering this rare BMW M1 on eBay, “which was custom coachbuilt for the Prime Minister of Qatar back in the day.” Auction page. Click here for first picture in gallery.
Looking for a BMW from the era of diminished expectations and runaway inflation? Maybe you’re considering a mid-70s BMW 2002 with big bumpers and an automatic, which you should be able to obtain for a bit under a couple grand.

EA has announced that they have pushed the release of its Battlefield Heroes game back to late 2008, “with the developers shifting focus to implementing better ’social networking features.’ Video after the break.
Since we won’t have to pay for the game’s maps, we’ll probably be using said “social networking features” to figure out how to complain about something else — possibly Burger King ads.

At $46, the 1GB nail drive keeps co-workers guessing and it’s “made of polyurethane and iron” for maximum durability. Click here for first picture in gallery.
The “nailed” memory stick makes it look like you got very frustrated with your computer, and in a fit of rage, hammered a nail into it.

Located in Seaham Hall (UK), the Vortex Fountain “was created using a large acrylic polymer cylinder which allows an air-core vortex to form as water is pumped in a circular motion.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.
Not surprisingly the fountain also relies on a heavy-duty water filtration system which is necessary to keep the vortex clean and spinning properly.

The 2008 Dodge Viper ACR has basically “been designed for owners who want to drive to the track, punish a few Porsches and then drive home.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.
It pulled a 1.1g on the skid pad and stopped from 60 mph to zero in just 100 feet. It went from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, just like the standard model, but the ACR did run a slightly faster quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 124.2 mph.
