Like our pals at Autoblog we are a bit mystified as to why this phone has a Ferrari gear gate on it but it does look cool. The latest phone from Vertu is the Vertu Ascenti Ferrari 60. The phone is titanium and covered in Ferrari leather which can be replaced as needed through Vertu’s service package that includes a free checkup every six months as well as the other features standard with Vertu phones such as their concierge service. There are just 60 of the phones available and they sell for $25,000.

Waking up is hard to do, but it might be a little easier with Zyken’s Nightcove alarm clock. It takes the powers of light, sound, and science and uses them to improve your sleep. All alarm clocks are designed to wake you up, but this one takes sleep-rhythms and naturally occurring light patterns to make it a more pleasant experience. The Nightcove has a darkening amber light at bedtime, followed by pulses of white and blue to wake you up the following morning. It also comes with an assortment of built-in sounds, or you can connect your mp3 player for customized audio. $2,500

I love the outdoors, so it’s always a bit of a bummer when this time of year swings around and it starts getting darker earlier. For you bikers out there who find yourself pedaling in the dusk and the dark this is something you might want to check out: the Betty, by Lupine Lighting Systems. It’s made to attach to your bike or your helmet (or wherever) and it’s the brightest (and possibly most expensive) bike light ever made. The Betty is so bright, in fact, that if you pedal too slowly or stop completely it will start dimming itself automatically because it needs your self-generated wind to keep from overheating. Nice motivation to keep pushing yourself!
Made of seven LEDs, the Betty bike light is about as bright as a car’s headlights (watch out for deer!). $1185

I’ve seen a lot of fancy earbuds but the new ones from Sleek Audio are the first I have seen that can be customized to this extent. The new earphones from Sleek Audio can be personalized with interchangeable bass and treble ports, interchangeable multi-sized dual flange tips and interchangeable cables. The headphones can create your custom “audio fingerprint.” The earphones can be work with the cord up or down. The headphones are available for pre-order for $229.99 and will be out in October.

I doubt my Grandfather would be very keen on wearing this hearing aid even if somebody paid him, but of course there’s always somebody out there willing (even if it’s only the one person who designed it!). Made by Widex, this digital hearing aid is cast in 24k gold and encrusted with 220 diamonds. And I can’t help but notice that Widex gave their logo on the bottom some extra attention, so any admirers will be sure to know where they can get one of their own. Get yours for only $42,590 and let the gawking begin.

I thought the new CD player from Bryston was pricey but the new 061 Classic Line CD Player from Burmester which is being unveiled at the CEDIA expo blows it away. The top-of-the-line model has a dedicated top-loading CD Playback system, a Phillips CD 2 Pro direct drive with a modified servo board and advanced converter technology with switchable upsampling rates of 96 and 192 kHz, and top-of-the-line analog output stages. The top loader is made of milled aluminum with a 10-millimeter thick tray that softly moves on Teflon rails. The 061 CD Player’s connection panel includes two digital RCA inputs and outputs, one Toslink optical digital input and output, a balanced XLR stereo output, and two unbalanced stereo RCA stereo outputs. The 061 Classic Line CD Player in silver housing with a chrome front panel has a suggested price of $11,995. Burmester has a variety of high-end uadio products and has also created the sound system for the Bugatti Veyron.

Although here in the Midwest pool season is almost over, there are those lucky to be living in areas where they may just be getting started with the warm season or else it’s toasty all year round. For those folks (or those of us in colder climates can put it on our wish list for next year) this Aquapub not only looks like bunches of fun, but it looks like unique fun your neighbors probably aren’t offering. It’s one thing to enjoy a Mai Tai by the pool, but what about in it? That can be a little awkward unless you have the Aquapub that seats six and comes complete with cup holders, 2 stashes, and an umbrella. It drains water, is a portable 90 lbs and is made of recycled materials. What more could you want?

As our friends at The Unofficial Apple Weblog have reported Apple unveiled their latest iPhone and iPod models which included the sexy new iPod touch and a drop in the prices of iPhones. Around the world the iPhone is big news even in the places that isn’t supposed to be yet. An Associated Press article says that the iPhone can be bought in China although Apple isn’t selling it there yet. Early adopters hungry for the latest technology are willing to pay 8,800 yuan ($1,170) for the iPhone even though the gadget doesn’t function completely. The iPhone in China can make calls and send text messages, but it can’t receive calls and you don’t even get voicemail. The iPhone isn’t set to launch in Asia until next year which at the current rate could be three or four versions from now.
